A Project Maintainers Guide To TAG Security - Marina Moore, Edera & Andres Aguiar, Okta
Monday March 31, 2025 09:30 - 10:05 BST
Is your project looking to move levels in the CNCF, but you have questions about the security requirements? Have you make every security improvement you can think of, but have a nagging feeling that you missed something? Or do you just want help with your project’s security?

TAG Security can help! TAG Security does security assessments of CNCF projects, both as part of graduation and to help improve your security posture. It also has several publications designed to help apply security concepts to cloud native projects. In this talk we will discuss the resources that TAG Security provides to projects and their maintainers to understand and improve their security. We’ll dive into assessments: project self-assessments, how these relate to joint security assessments, how both of these relate to incubation and graduation. We’ll also talk about how TAG Security relates to the domain technical reviews (DTRs) for projects moving levels. Join us to level up your project’s security posture!

Growing Your Design Proposal Process To Meet Your Needs - Andrew Burden, Red Hat & Kirsten G., Google
Monday March 31, 2025 10:10 - 10:45 BST
Is your project starting to outgrow your initial Design Proposal Process? Are you wondering what changes to make and how? The Kubernetes Enhancement Proposal Process continues to evolve to accommodate the demands of a high velocity and volume project. But a mature process can be daunting to smaller projects who might be wrestling with whether their project even needs one.

KubeVirt started with no process, but as the project increases in size popularity, and complexity, design proposals became not just an excellent way to converge on better solutions, they are now fundamental to ensuring long-term maintenance, openness, and prioritisation of features. So much so that we have developed our own Enhancement Proposal process.

Join Kubernetes SIG-arch and KubeVirt maintainers to learn more about these journeys, and we'll share some lessons learned to give you a jump start on smoothly scaling (or starting) your own design proposal process.

Redesigning Kubelet Probes - Surya Seetharaman & Dan Winship, Red Hat
Monday March 31, 2025 11:00 - 11:35 BST
Kubelet probes are diagnostic tools in Kubernetes for container health monitoring and lifecycle management. While the three probe types - Liveness, Readiness, and Startup - offer essential container health checks through HTTP, TCP, and exec mechanisms, they face significant security challenges including SSRF vulnerabilities and NetworkPolicy complications. This presentation examines these security implications and proposes architectural improvements to the probe system, incorporating audience feedback to shape potential solutions.

Tests Are What You Want, What You Really Really Want - Ryan Hallisey, NVIDIA & Daniel Hiller, Red Hat
Monday March 31, 2025 11:40 - 12:15 BST
As your Kubernetes project evolves, so should your testing strategy. The KubeVirt project maintainers are eager to share their insights on developing robust and comprehensive test suites.

In this talk, we will share how projects in the Kubernetes ecosystem can leverage advanced testing techniques:
- The performance of your project’s controllers and CRDs
- Simulating and measuring your component’s scalability and the pressure it puts on the API server
- How we can use AI to combat flaky tests
